Peloton Treadmill Review: 200+ Runs Later
Price, Subscription, and Warranties
How much does the Peloton Treadmill cost?
The Peloton Tread starts at 2995 USD, which includes the Peloton Tread and a 12-month limited warranty. Peloton offers various packages and finance options starting at 0% APR. I financed my Peloton without any hidden fees or scams and paid it off early without any hidden fees or penalties. Although, I did notice that the Peloton Tread increased in price. I bought mine in August of 2021 for 2495 USD plus 350 USD for delivery and setup.
How much is the Peloton Membership?
The membership also increased from 39.99 USD per month to 44 USD per month. A subscription is required to access all the Peloton content. You can access a variety of workouts from your Peloton Treadmill or your phone on the Peloton App.
You can use this subscription for your entire family to use on the Tread, Bike, or Rower. You can try the Peloton app for free if you are unsure about your purchase. At the end of the day, if you do not plan to pay the monthly subscription, then the Peloton Tread is not for you.
What Does the Peloton 12-Month Limited Warranty cover?
The Peloton Tread includes a 12-month limited parts and labor warranty, covering the HD Touchscreen, frame, drive motor, walking belt, labor, and most original components.
- Drive Motor – 3 years
- Walking Belt – 3 years
- Labor – 12 months
- Components – 12 months
- HD Touchscreen – 12 months
Is Peloton’s extended warranty worth it?
The short answer is yes! I purchased the 48-Month Protection Plan w/ ADH – Tread for 249 USD plus tax. The limit of liability includes any costs for access, diagnosis, repair, replacement, delivery of replacement product, and reimbursement during the Term of this Agreement. It’s an expensive machine and built to last; however, I’ve had issues with the running band and screen becoming loose. The issues have been resolved, but I fear that the running band is getting loose again.
Delivery and Setup
How will my Peloton Tread be delivered?
Your Peloton Tread will be delivered by an external partner. They will call to schedule the delivery date and they vary based on demand, season, and location.
What to do before your delivery?
Before the scheduled delivery date, clear access routes from the entrance of your home to your Peloton Room. The Peloton Tread has a footprint of 5.6′ x 2.7′, and you’ll need at least 6′ clearance behind your Peloton Tread and 2′ on each side of the tread. The power cable attaches to the front of the Tread and is approximately 6 feet in length.
A few other things to do before delivery:
- Set up your Peloton user account
- Ensure your Peloton will be within your WIFI range
- Ensure a socket is near your desired location
- Get inspiration from other Peleton Rooms on Pinterest!
What to expect during the delivery?
All Peloton Treads are delivered by external partners and assembled in the final setup location. They should connect it to the socket and WiFi network. Before you use the Tread, they should conduct a functional test by running it at high speed and on a steep incline. You should do a quick test run before they leave to ensure everything was set up correctly. I didn’t check, and I had several issues after my Peloton was set up.
My Peloton Treadmill Delivery Experience
My Tread worked fine for a few weeks, and the problems started with the screen and the running band. Unfortunately, you also have to schedule the technician visits with the external partners so that they will schedule visits based on their availability. That was a three-month wait period for me! The Peloton support team could not figure out the issue and replaced my Tread after a couple of technician visits. So, long story short, verify that the Tread is set up correctly and monitor the delivery team.
Peloton Treadmill Design
The Peloton Tread frame is about 290 pounds, and it has four adjustable levelers under the deck that can be adjusted. Make sure they get properly adjusted during the delivery and setup! The Tread is 20 inches wide and 59 inches long.
The Treadmill deck has a red line in the middle to guide the runner. The best part of the deck is that it does not contain the annoying motor cover that most treads have in the front. The side rails are textured, but be careful as they can get slippery with sweat.
The plastic storage tray spans the treadmill’s width, containing two cup holders. You can also place your phone in the middle of the tray.
While the design is attractive, there is one caveat. Since the uprights connect directly to the frame rather than to separate stabilizers, when you run, it causes the uprights to wobble. This impacts the stability of the screen. This causes the screen to wobble while you are running.
Peloton Treadmill Controls
Personally, the best part of the design is the speed and incline knobs on the Peloton Tread. They are slightly textured to prevent your sweaty hands from slipping. You can also use the screen to choose from three preset speeds and inclines. Ideally, this can be handy, but when running fast speeds and trying to use these touchscreen controls, they are not ideal.
Peloton Treadmill Screen
The 23.8-inch touchscreen is the crowning jewel of the Peloton Tread, including a front-facing soundbar, camera, head jack, Bluetooth connectivity, and a USB-C port on the back. The screen adjustment is 0 – 50 deg vertical tilt but does not rotate horizontally like the Peloton Bike Plus.
Safety features
There are two physical safety features: a red stop button and a safety key. The Peloton Tread also contains step-sensors that stop the Tread after 60 seconds if you aren’t standing on the belt. Peloton also added a Tread Lock screen, which requires inputting a four-digit passcode. This lock pops up when Tread wakes from sleep, restarts, or if you’ve been inactive outside of a class for 45 seconds. I am a new mom to a baby boy and own three dogs, so these safety features are great for my household.
Running on the Tread
There is no decline, and there is a 12.5% incline. You can run up to 12.5 mph. That is enough incline and speed for me. I do have issues with the running band. Over time, it does get loose. I’ve had it repaired once and fear it will be loose again.
The classes are the best part of the entire Peloton experience. There are no pre-programmed workouts on the Tread, so you will not be able to enjoy the classes unless you pay the monthly subscription. Tread classes are divided by category, instructor, distance, time, and music preference.
A general overview of the Peloton Tread library:
Live classes are scheduled, so you can join a live stream. Live classes rank users in real time based on their kilojoule output.
On-Demand classes are recorded classes you can take at any time.
Class options include Bootcamp, intervals, walking, hiking, and running. Outdoor routes are also available. Just Run is the manual mode. Scenic Run is a class where the instructors run in scenic places.
Who are the best Peloton Instructors?
And last but not least, the instructors! The instructors are why Peloton Tread can be such a great running experience. There is an instructor for everyone!
My favorite Peloton Instructors:
- Andy Speer for Bootcamp classes
- Kristen Ferguson for best overall music and motivation
- Rebecca Kennedy for best overall runs
- Robin Arzon for HIIT runs
